Hire Solaris engineers for SPARC and x86 estates
Oracle’s Extended Support for Solaris 10 and 11.3 ends in January 2027. Whether you upgrade to 11.4 or move to Linux, you need engineers who know Zones, ZFS and SMF. We supply them.
- UK contract with Dreams Technologies Hub Private Limited (VAT registered)
- Engineers delivered from our own Coimbatore office, India
- Shortlist within 5 working days
- Building software since 2013
Where Solaris work comes from
Solaris remains common in telecoms, utilities, financial services and government suppliers, often on SPARC hardware. Oracle has postponed the end of Extended Support for Solaris 10 and 11.3 to January 2027. Solaris 11.4 has Premier Support to November 2031 and Extended Support to November 2037.
So there are two sensible routes: upgrade to 11.4 and keep going, or move to Linux. Typical requests:
- Administration and patching of Solaris 10 and 11 estates.
- Upgrades from Solaris 10 or 11.3 to 11.4, including Solaris 10 branded zones.
- Zones, ZFS, SMF and LDoms (Oracle VM Server for SPARC).
- Solaris Cluster support.
- Solaris to Linux migration.
What our Solaris engineers do
- Patch and SRU management with tested rollback using boot environments.
- Zone consolidation and migration between hosts.
- ZFS pool design, snapshots and replication.
- Service management with SMF, and DTrace for troubleshooting.
- Upgrade planning to 11.4, or inventory for a move to Linux.
Profiles we supply
| Profile | Experience | Typical work |
|---|---|---|
| Solaris administrator | 6+ years | Operations, patching, zones, storage |
| Solaris and Cluster specialist | 8+ years | High availability, upgrades, failover tests |
| Solaris upgrade engineer | 8+ years | Solaris 10 / 11.3 to 11.4 programmes |
| Solaris to Linux migration engineer | 8+ years | SMF to systemd, ZFS to XFS/LVM, application moves |
What we test in the technical interview
Every candidate is interviewed by one of our own senior engineers. We test the exact things your system depends on:
- Solaris 10 and 11 administration, IPS and SVR4 packaging.
- Zones, including branded zones, and LDoms.
- ZFS administration and boot environments.
- SMF service manifests.
- Solaris Cluster or Veritas Cluster, where used.
- DTrace and standard Solaris troubleshooting tools.
Three ways to work with us
Dedicated specialist
A named engineer joins your team on a monthly time-and-materials basis. Best when you have live systems, an urgent gap and your own technical lead.
See support podsFixed-scope assessment
Two to three weeks, fixed fee. We map the code, the platform and the people risk, then give you options with effort ranges. Best when nobody fully understands the system any more.
See the assessmentMigration project
Fixed price once the assessment is done. We port, test, run in parallel and cut over. Best when you have decided to leave the platform.
See migrationsWhy teams come to us for scarce skills
Finding thin talent pools is our core skill
Large service firms rarely staff a single Pro*C or HP-UX role quickly. We keep a vetted network of engineers who have these skills and want this work.
Screened by people who have done the work
Our own senior engineers run the technical interview. Candidates are tested on the platform you run, not on general programming.
UK contract, India delivery
You contract with our UK company. The work is delivered from our own office in Coimbatore with working hours that overlap the UK day.
AI-assisted code understanding
Our team works with Claude Code to read, document and test old codebases faster. Every finding is checked by an engineer before it reaches you.
Continuity built in
Every engagement keeps a runbook and code notes from week one, and a second engineer is briefed on your system. Losing one person does not mean losing the knowledge.
We also run the migration
When you are ready to leave the platform, the same team that kept it running plans and delivers the move.
Tell us what you’re running
Send us the stack and the problem. We’ll reply within one working day and, if it’s a staffing request, send a shortlist within five.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Should we upgrade to Solaris 11.4 or move to Linux?
If the hardware is healthy and the applications are certified on Solaris, 11.4 buys years of runway. If hardware is ageing or skills are thin, Linux is usually the better long-term answer. Our assessment compares both.
Can Solaris 10 applications run on 11.4?
Often, through Solaris 10 branded zones and Oracle’s binary compatibility guarantee, but every application should be tested. We plan and run that testing.
Do you support SPARC hardware?
Our engineers administer Solaris on SPARC and x86. Hardware maintenance itself stays with your hardware provider.
