Legacy estate assessment: know what you have before you decide
Two to three weeks, fixed fee. We map the code, the platform and the people risk, then give you clear options with effort ranges. You own every document we produce.
- UK contract with Dreams Technologies Hub Private Limited (VAT registered)
- Engineers delivered from our own Coimbatore office, India
- Shortlist within 5 working days
- Building software since 2013
When this is the right first step
- Nobody on the current team fully understands the system.
- The platform has a support date and you need a credible plan for the board.
- You have quotes for a rewrite and want an independent view before you commit.
- A key engineer is leaving and you need their knowledge written down first.
What you get
| Deliverable | What’s in it |
|---|---|
| System inventory | Servers, OS and patch levels, databases, middleware, schedulers, interfaces and file transfers, with owners where known. |
| Code map | Modules, call paths, database access (embedded SQL, stored procedures), build process and external dependencies. |
| Recovered documentation | Plain-English descriptions of what the main programs and batch jobs do. Drafted with AI assistance, checked line by line by our engineers. |
| Risk register | People risk, vendor support dates, security exposure, hardware age, single points of failure. Each with likelihood, impact and a recommended action. |
| Options paper | Stabilise in place, upgrade in place, rehost, port to Linux, or rewrite. Effort range, cost range, risk and timeline for each. |
| Plan and staffing view | The recommended route as a phased plan, with the skills each phase needs. |
How it runs
- Kick-off (day 1). Scope, access and the people we should talk to.
- Read-only access (days 1–3). To source code, build scripts, crontabs and configuration. We can work inside your environment if code can’t leave it.
- Interviews (week 1). Short sessions with the people who run and use the system.
- Analysis (weeks 1–2). Code reading and platform review, assisted by Claude Code and verified by our engineers.
- Read-out (end of week 2 or 3). A working session with your team, then the final documents.

| Estate | Larger or multi-site estates | Agreed | Quoted after a scoping call |
If you go ahead with a migration or support engagement with us within 90 days, we credit the assessment fee against it.
Security and confidentiality
We sign your NDA before any access. Access is read-only. Where your policy requires it, we work entirely inside your environment through your VDI or jump host, and no code leaves your network. AI tooling runs only inside your environment, on your systems and under your access controls. No client code is sent to outside AI services.
Why teams come to us for scarce skills
Finding thin talent pools is our core skill
Large service firms rarely staff a single Pro*C or HP-UX role quickly. We keep a vetted network of engineers who have these skills and want this work.
Screened by people who have done the work
Our own senior engineers run the technical interview. Candidates are tested on the platform you run, not on general programming.
UK contract, India delivery
You contract with our UK company. The work is delivered from our own office in Coimbatore with working hours that overlap the UK day.
AI-assisted code understanding
Our team works with Claude Code to read, document and test old codebases faster. Every finding is checked by an engineer before it reaches you.
Continuity built in
Every engagement keeps a runbook and code notes from week one, and a second engineer is briefed on your system. Losing one person does not mean losing the knowledge.
We also run the migration
When you are ready to leave the platform, the same team that kept it running plans and delivers the move.
Tell us what you’re running
Send us the stack and the problem. We’ll reply within one working day and, if it’s a staffing request, send a shortlist within five.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do we have to use you for the migration afterwards?
No. The documents are yours and are written so any competent team could act on them.
What access do you need?
Read-only access to source code, build scripts, scheduler definitions and system configuration, plus a few hours of your team’s time for interviews.
Can you assess a system with no documentation at all?
Yes. That is the most common situation we see. Recovering documentation from code is a core part of the assessment.
How do you use AI on our code?
Our engineers use Claude Code to speed up reading and summarising code. Every finding is checked by a person. AI tooling runs only inside your environment, never on our own machines or outside services.
