Moving a UK benefits administration platform from AIX to RHEL
A long-running benefits administration platform on IBM AIX LPARs, moving to Red Hat Enterprise Linux on x86 servers with Azure Local. Delivered with our UK partner.
At a glance

| Source platform | IBM AIX on Power LPARs |
| Target platform | RHEL on Lenovo x86 servers with Azure Local |
| Our role | Feasibility workshop, paid discovery, and a specialist AIX and Linux migration team |

The challenge
The platform had run reliably on AIX for years, but the cost of Power hardware and the shrinking pool of AIX skills made the current setup harder to justify. The client wanted to move to standard x86 servers with Azure Local, without disrupting a service that administers members’ benefits.
Our approach
- Feasibility workshop. A no-cost session with the client and partner to agree scope, risks and what success looks like.
- Paid discovery. Inventory of LPARs, applications, scripts, schedules and dependencies, and a migration approach for each workload.
- Specialist team. AIX administrators, RHEL engineers and migration engineers selected and interviewed by the client. [CONFIRM team size]
What we are handling
- Inventory of crontabs, startup scripts and AIX-specific commands that need Linux equivalents.
- Big-endian to little-endian data and database considerations when moving off Power.
- Rebuilding the server estate on RHEL with Azure Local management.
- A cutover and rollback plan agreed with the client before any production move.
Results
[CONFIRM: add measurable outcomes once milestones are complete, e.g. number of LPARs migrated, cutover dates, downtime, cost saving. Do not publish this section until real numbers exist.]
